Following our recent communication regarding travel to China and the acute respiratory virus Coronavirus – COVID-19, we wanted to send you a further update and guidelines.

As you can appreciate, this is a dynamic situation which is changing daily and we ask you to read the latest guidelines given out on the following websites:

In short:

Travellers from Wuhan and Hubei Province and other specified areas

 If you have travelled from:

You should immediately:

  • Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
  • Call your local healthcare centre (for example, in England this would be 111)
  • Refrain from further travel
  • Inform your local HRBP

Please follow this advice even if you do not have symptoms of the virus.

To confirm, added to these ‘Lockdown’ areas, have also been reported in Northern Italy and include:

  • In Lombardy: Codogno, Castiglione d’Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano
  • Special care zones in South Korea: Daegu and Cheongdo

Travellers from other parts of China and other specified areas

 This advice applies to travellers who have returned from the following areas:

  • China
  • Thailand
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Hong Kong
  • Taiwan
  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Macau

If you have returned from any of these areas in the last 14 days and develop symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath, you should immediately:

  • Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
  • Immediately call your local health centre to inform them of your recent travel to the area (for example, in England this would be 111)
  • Take your local health centre advice
  • Refrain from further travel
  • Inform your local HRBP

There are also simple steps you can take to prevent the spread of infection which are reiterated below:

Preventing the spread of infection:

To reduce the risk of further spread of the virus, PHE advises that people should maintain good hand, respiratory and personal hygiene and advised to take the following measures:

  • Regularly wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds, or an alcohol based sanitiser if soap and water aren’t available
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home

As the Covid-19 virus continues to spread, we will do our best to keep you updated, but as you aware this is a dynamic situation and you should always refer to the NHS or WHO websites given above for the latest guidance.

We do not, as already stated, see any impact to theschool.  However, this will be dependent on the action that Nailsea school might take e.g., closing down school premises.

We will keep you up to date as much as we can, and we are also going to be advising our students to remember to wash their hands as much as possible, we will also make hand sanitisers available in the studio/music room.
