Dance coach, Choreographer
Gundija is a freelance dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Her dance education started early in her childhood in Latvia progressing into professional training in Denmark (Aarhus), followed by the UK (Northampton) where she received her first class BA (Hons) in Dance.
Gundija’s focus as a dance teacher lies in performativity, and intelligent appreciation of movement and moving. She believes in dance being a form of communication, a way of telling stories and expressing oneself. To support self expression she highlights the importance of having disciplined, trained and receptive body. Each of Gundija’s classes set clear objectives for her students to achieve, and are structured to help the dancers reach them.
Gundija has performed and competed internationally, in a range of dance styles including rhythmic gymnastics, street dance, and contemporary dance. As a dance captain, and performer with Playgrounds Dance Company (2013 -2015), she gained experience in directing rehearsals, assisting choreographers, and supervising dancers in the process of making and performing dance works.
Gundija is currently developing her own choreographic practice, in autumn 2017 she undertook a residency at National Dance Company Wales, and was also commissioned by the University of South Wales to make two dance works for public performances.
